A Little Bit About Our School
Instep School of Dance is a non-competitive dance school offering classes in ballet, jazz, tap, acro, contemporary, hip hop and preschool dance. Our highly qualified and trained instructors emphasize strong technical training in an encouraging, safe, and fun atmosphere.
All of our classes are held in the Varsity Community Centre, where each studio has sprung floors. There is ample parking and a large and comfortable waiting area. Our classes run for nine months from September to May.
We provide our students with two performance opportunities each year. We hold a Christmas Showcase in December, and a full recital at the beginning of June. Our December presentation is held in the main hall of the Varsity Community Centre. Most of the costumes for this show are provided by Instep School of Dance. Instead of selling tickets to our recitals, we accept donations to the Make a Wish Foundation.
Our recital in May is held in a professional theatre at Mount Royal University. Families will need to buy tickets and costumes for this show, but every effort is made to keep the cost minimal. Parents volunteers are needed for assistance during the recital. A recital handout will be sent home prior to the recital date.
Classes are divided into different levels designed to be developmentally appropriate for each age group. As the dancers progress through the levels the work becomes increasingly challenging and requires greater skills and technique. Students who have no previous dance training may need to register in a lower level in order to learn the necessary technique needed to have a successful and positive experience. In most cases dancers will take the same level for two years. Please contact the office with any inquiries regarding level placement.
